About VCU

One of the nation's pre-eminent urban research universities, Virginia Commonwealth University enrolls more than 32,000 students on two Richmond campuses – the Monroe Park Campus and the MCV Campus. VCU serves an integral role in the economic health of Richmond, the region, the commonwealth and beyond – educating the current and future workforce, reaching out to the community, advancing research and enhancing patient care.

In 2010, VCU received its largest federal grant to date — a $20 million Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the National Institutes of Health. With this grant, the university, through its Center for Clinical and Translational Research, became part of a nationwide consortium of elite research institutions working to turn laboratory discoveries into treatments for patients.

VCU Health Sciences maintains an aggressive research portfolio. Total research awards amounted to approximately $152 million in fiscal year 2010, which represented more than 59 percent of the university's total research awards.

VCU uses WIRB as the local institutional review board for quick approvals and start-up timelines. WIRB will invoice the sponsors directly.
